Uverse Rox.
Nov 9th
17.9MB downloads – 2MB uploads.
DVR that records 4 channels at once, and is playable on any other unit.
Kick ass Guide, and super fast channel changing. (Comcast people you know what I’m talking about)
After several weeks of Uverse, I have to admit I was skeptical to begin with, and the 1st week was a little rocky with some intermittent issues. (Resolved in 3 days, with no further issues.)
I have to admit, I am really happy with uverse. Those of you who know me, know I am very finicky, very hard to please, and very quick to tell someone where they can take their product and shove it; so for this opinion to be positive, holds a lot of weight.
There are a lot of feature to talk about, more then I care to cover in this post, but know that their are no shortages of features for the money that you are paying, and in JAX, FL you get much more for your money in a direct comparison with Comcast.
So, there it is.. Please feel free to drop your comments/questions here, and I’ll be happy to reply!

uVerse is Here!!
Oct 14th
Today is the day!
Today is the day we celebrate our Independence day…. Oh wait…
Yep, that right folks, today completes the installation of uVerse at yours-truelies. (is that a word)
As promised I have pictures of the installation, and what was actually installed and how my installation looked during and after.
At promptly 8:30AM EST I received a call from Mark from AT&T confirming his arrival at 9AM to begin my internal installation.
At 9AM, Mark arrived in a AT&T truck on-time and ready to rock. After acknowledging a quick EULA of sorts, Mark gave me the run down, and expectations. Basically the installation went down as such:
- Inspect cable, replace/rerun as necessary.
- Confirm all settings, install RG. (Residential Gateway)
- Install both TVs (2 installed, 1 HD and 1 SD), update systems.
- Login and register account, verify all settings.
- Verify all TVs working.
- Setup Phone.
- Recheck all settings, and walk-through/tutorial

So, I know what you are asking, pictures are great, but what do you think?
Well, judgment is still out, and I believe it will take time for both the spouse and I to rein in solid opinions of uVerse. I know that’s not what you want to hear, so let me tell you there are so many features, I couldn’t possibly list them all here right now. I will admit, my personal opinion is that if you reside in the Jacksonville, FL area, and have the option of uVerse verse Comcast, your an idiot for not making the transition..
As of this posting, my download was running between 9MB to 12 MB down and 1.5 to 1.7 MB up.
So I think the fair answer is, I need more time to pass judgment.
I will say that the TV service and HD, blows Comcast away, which in my opinion almost makes any issue moot. So all in all, only time will tell.
uVerse – Phase 1
Oct 10th
Gearing up for the uVerse installation this October 14th, I received the first call for the Exterior Line Tech. David called at 8:30 AM this morning, to come over to check all exterior cabling, and trace the signal from the block box to the house, and to take bandwidth measurements in insure everything was set for the interior installer on Wednesday.
After a few checks, a brand new external junction box, and a walk down the street to verify distance (500ft to block box); everything checks out. I measure in at 65MB total upgradeable available bandwidth, currently set to 25 MB down, 2MB up to my house.
David was top notch, and we are the absolute 1st uVerse customers in our neighborhood, so I’ve got a bit of a warm fuzzy thus far, especially since my history with AT&T is a bit tainted.
Tune back in on Wednesday for a full update on the uVerse installation experience. I’ll try to snap a few pictures too.
woot!
PS – It’s nice to see that AT&T sent out a real AT&T tech, instead of a contractor. Not sure if the is common with uVerse, but it was the first thing I noticed.
TO uverse or not too uverse.

That is the question?
I’ve been looking into AT&T Uverse as a possible replacement for Comcast in JAX, FL.
Now I have to admit, Comcast isn’t my favorite cable company, but their service works. I have a very minimum amount of outages. (I believe this year, we’ve had 3 outages lasting more then 30 minutes.)
And with their bundled service, you get a discount..
On the other hand, they are over priced, which somewhat negates any package discount you get, and their support is subpar at best. (I’d get better support from a brick wall.)
SO, I have a question. Does anyone else have Uverse, and have any feedback on their service? (Posted in BroadbandReports Forums.)
